Look up Kaharagian law
KahaLex is the searchable, indexed reference for Kaharagian legal codes. It is open to the public and does not require an account.
Important: KahaLex is not authoritative
KahaLex is a reference and study aid, not the publication of record. The authoritative text of any Kaharagian instrument is the version published in the Royal Kaharagian Gazette. Where KahaLex and the Gazette differ, whether in wording, formatting, or because KahaLex has not yet been updated to reflect a recent amendment, the Gazette prevails.
For everyday reading and study, KahaLex is more convenient: it is searchable, organised by code rather than by edition, and includes navigation aids. For citation in legal proceedings, professional opinions, or any matter of legal effect, cite the Gazette.
How to find what you need
Browse by code
The KahaLex landing page lists the codes and bodies of law it covers. Pick a code; you'll see its table of contents. Drill down to the specific section, article, or provision.
Search by keyword
KahaLex includes full-text search across all the codes it carries. Searches return matches in context, so you can quickly see whether a hit is what you want before clicking through.
Follow cross-references
Where one provision references another, the reference is usually a hyperlink. Following these links is the fastest way to follow a chain of related provisions.
Reading a provision
Each KahaLex page typically shows:
- The code, chapter, and article number
- The text of the provision as KahaLex has transcribed it
- Cross-references to related provisions
- Where applicable, a note of the date of last update
If you need to know whether the provision shown is current as of a particular date, check the Gazette for any amending instrument published since the date of the KahaLex transcription.
Citing KahaLex
Casual citation of KahaLex is fine, for blog posts, classroom materials, study notes, or general reference. For anything with legal weight, cite the Gazette publication of the underlying instrument.
A KahaLex URL is not a substitute for a Gazette citation, even if the KahaLex page is accurate.
What KahaLex doesn't have
- Forthcoming legislation: KahaLex carries enacted instruments; bills, drafts, and proposals are not within its scope
- Case law and legal opinions: KahaLex is a code reference, not a case-law database
- Foreign law: only Kaharagian law is in scope
- Live commentary: provisions are presented as enacted, not annotated with commentary, summaries, or interpretations
A note on legal advice
Reading KahaLex does not constitute receiving legal advice, and using KahaLex does not establish a lawyer-client relationship of any kind. If you need legal advice on a specific matter under Kaharagian law, consult a qualified practitioner. KahaLex is a reading aid, not a substitute for professional advice.
